Karaikal has a number of temples. Hence Temples are the major sight seeing attraction of Karaikal.

Jambunatha Swamy Temple:

This temple is situated in Neravy. According to history, this temple was constructed by Thirumalai Rayan who ruled this region between 1453 and 1468 as a representative of Vijaya Nagar Empire.

Badrakaliyamman temple in Ambagarathur:

To the west of Karaikal in Ambagarathur village of Tirunallar commune, there exists a Badrakaliyamman temple. The temple assumes the name of Goddess Parasakthi who is believed to have killed a rakshasha by name Ambaran who was in buffalo form.  In the Tamil month of Vaikasi on every second Tuesday at 1.00 P.M. a buffalo was killed in proof of this event. However, buffalo killing was discontinued since 1965, but the pomp and glory of the festival still continues.

Ayiramkaliyamman temple in Tirumalairayanpattianam:

This temple exists in Tirumalairayanpattinam village.   Once every 5 years, during the Tamil month of Vaikasi, a grand pooja with 1000 items is conducted in this temple for 3 days. After the festival, the idol is dismantled part by part and kept back in the box to be opened after another 5 years only.
